This pottery Quart Pot is a replica of a Simpson quart pot purchased in 1965 by a young drover named Joe Buckley.
The blackened tin quart pot was an essential part of Australian droving gear. It held a quarter of a gallon, hence its name. It consists of a base and lid which Joe carried in a leather case.
The quart pot base is placed over the campfire to boil water. A handful of tea leaves are added. The brew was poured into the lid which served as a handy cup from which to drink.
Riversands Quart Pot contains mellow tawny port - even more delicious than billy tea!
